How to care for your retainer/night guards

Clean your retainers/nightguard every time they are removed from your mouth by using soapy water and a soft brush. 

Do:

• Use only cool water for cleaning

• Brush gently with a soft bristled toothbrush

• We recommend the weekly use of Retainer Brite for all appliances. These tablets (available at reception) kill 99% of common odour-causing bacteria and help remove stains and plaque. 

 To use: place one tablet in a cup or tub with enough WARM (not hot) water to cover the appliance, put appliance in, leave for 15 minutes then rinse thoroughly under running water. 

Do not:

• Do not use toothpaste

• Do not use hot water

• Do not use any harsh cleaning or bleach solutions

• Do not squeeze or apply excessive pressure to appliances when cleaning

• Do not soak for long periods

Retainers are designed for long-term use. To keep your teeth in their corrected position, it’s important to wear them as advised otherwise, movement is likely over time.
